Information and Communications Technology (ICT)

Our school can be proud of its achievements in developing the curriculum and infrastructure to support the use of Information and Communications Technology.  We initially chose to base our computers in small labs spread around the school.  This enables us to take both small groups and whole classes into the labs for activities.  The labs are air-conditioned for comfort and to help keep out salt spray from the nearby beach (the natural enemy of computer gear).

All classes are allocated a minimum of 90 minutes in a lab per week with the opportunity to book extra times as required.  Our new computer lab in our Resource Centre has 28 computers allowing every student in each class access to a computer.  Every classroom teacher has a modern laptop computer which can be used in class through a data projector and whiteboard to enhance the students' learning experiences.

Planning for all year levels has an ICT focus each term which may include:

Word processing, desk top publishing, multimedia/presentations, research, email, online discussions, blogs, simulations, drill and practice games and Learning Objects.

We also subscribe to the well known and popular Mathletics and Reading Eggs Websites which enable individualised student learning in literacy and numeracy.

Education Queensland has developed a vast repository of digital resources and communication tools which are available to schools at 'The Learning Place' and teachers are taking advantage of this by incorporating its use into planning and undertaking professional development to enhance the teaching and learning (pedagogy) in their classes.
